The Camino de Santiago Colour Calendar 2012

After the long walk last year collecting many photographs, I decided to put together a calendar of some of the photographs. Soon I will complete a black and white calendar too. The walk itself is a fantastic one, and highly recommended.

Life in the Deep Freezer

Its not been above minus 6C the last few days, and expecting minus 20C tonight. Still life in the freezer was enhanced this morning with the full lunar eclipse, the first on the Winter Solstice since 1638. Sky was clear and the sight was one to behold as the colours changed from the silver of the moon to pink, red then a deep copper. Worth getting up early for!

The Dusty Track Blog continues to be updated. Leon is a fascinating city in the North of Spain with many interesting shops and streets. I was surprised to find so many old and traditional shops and bars here - I would recommend a visit! I will continue to update the blog at dustytrack.com over the next few weeks. I have just finished a long walk from Le Puy en Velay in France to Santiago de Compostela in Spain. This is the Way of Saint James and is a very ancient route dating back to medieval times. Millau Viaduct in France

There has been a bit of interest in this photograph of the Millau Viaduct which spans the Tarn River in the Aveyron department of France. It is quite an incredible structure. It was very misty with cloud rising from the valley when I visited. With enough patience the light changed and made the bridge shine in the cloud.

Just added some favourite shots to Flickr. By no means the end of the story - many more to come in future. In Geneva at the moment, and have tried to get a different perspective of this tranquil city (before the tourists arrive anyway!) Searching the backwaters of the city can provide some great photo opportunities, as opposed to the standard 'Jet d'Eau' and lake side shots. Coming soon!

Archive using Apple Aperture

Since Digital Railroad is no more, I have experimented with the new web gallery functions of Apple's Aperture. While there are only a few templates included with the software, they are clear and well designed. Apparently, its possible to develop a customised web template, so ... to work! In the mean time, under the archive pages, there are links to a few such Aperture web pages. As things develop I will post new features and changes.

New Web Site now Live!

Finally I have put together a new website using Freeway Pro web design software. The archive service is not yet available. Actually, I am having trouble finding a replacement for the Digital Railroad archive ... so if anyone has any suggestions, let me know. PhotoShelter looks the best bet so far but it would be good to have the style and flexibility of Digital Railroad.

The Demise of Digital Railroad

The reports say that it looks like Digital Railroad has gone bottom-up. Sad news indeed for the world of stock photography. So its back to the drawing board on where to house the archive collection which is, or was, coming along slowly. Now its time to do a new web site, and should my site disappear suddenly, then hopefully it will only be a few days till I get the new site up and running. I feel for all the photographers and agencies that have put so much time and effort into developing their businesses with Digital Railroad. Hopefully some good can come of the scraps that remain, and a phoenix of DRR will arise!

The rainforests of the world are special, both tropical and temperate - check some photos that I have selected. There are temperate rainforests in cooler climates, such as in New Zealand, where you can even find a parrot that lives in the higher mountains above the rainforests and the snowline.

Hunza Valley Photographs

The Hunza Valley is a wonderful place in the North of Pakistan ... towering scenery and friendly people life in this high altitude place. The valley floors themselves are a lush green, fed by the icy mountain waters. The area produces a lot of apricots ... the locals are said to live long on a diet high in apricots!
